vSZ HS and disabling 2.4ghz on an SSID

I can't seem to figure out how to disable 2.4ghz on a SSID. All other posts seem to talk about the ZD and they don't seem to be the same. vSZ is running 3.5.1. If we create the WLAN group and then create the AP group, there doesn't seem to be a way to disable 2.4 in the AP group. Is it CLI only? Help!

Hey Peter,
The way to accomplish this in SZ is to create a WLAN group (WLAN page) and add the WLANs into the WLAN groups (e.g. 2.4Group and 5Group). Then you edit the APgroup (AP page) radio settings and apply the proper WLANgroup to the AP radios as desired.

We tried this, but didn't see a way to 'disable' 2.4 or 5 in an AP group. If we unchecked the frequencies, it said we had to select one. What specific setting do we uncheck/check to disable a radio? Screenshot?

Hi Peter,
In the APgroup settings, you should see the below configuration in the radio options. The UI might look a little different in some respects...the screenshot below is from a 5.0 beta version. Look for the WLAN Group selector. This is where you select the WLANs that will be advertised on the radios of that APgroup. If you don't see the WLAN group setting, double check that you are editing the APgroup instead of the Zone. And if you still don't see it, let me know what build you're running.

The key was that we can't edit the default AP zone which threw me off. Once we created the AP group we were able to move all the APs to that group and override the WLAN groups. Thanks for the snip, it helped.

I know this is a bit old, but hoping to get a reply. These instructions appear to isolate the radio on the AP. We have multiple SSIDs, some of which we want to be 2.4 only, some 5 and some mixed all being broadcast from the same AP. Can this be done?

We are running an sz100 with version 3.5.

Hi Christopher,

Please create a WLAN group, lets call it as 2.4Ghz WLAN Group and add all the WLANs which you want to be 2.4Ghz radio and create another WLAN Group and add all the WLANs which you want them to be on 5Ghz radio and lets call this as 5Ghz WLAN Group.

Now we have 3 WLAN Groups,

1.Default WLAN Group.
2.2.4Ghz WLAN Group.
3.5Ghz WLAN Group.

Similarly, please create AP groups with name 2Ghz AP Group and add APs on which you want only 2.4Ghz radio enabled and now create 5Ghz AP group and add APs on which you want only 5Ghz radio only enabled, use Default AP Group and add APs on which you want SSIDs to be available on both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radio.

3 AP Groups,

1.Default AP Group
2.2.4Ghz AP Group
3.5Ghz AP Group

Now, edit the 2.4Ghz AP group and override WLAN Group setting on 2.4Ghz radio and map 2.4Ghz WLAN Group and disable 5Ghz radio.

Similarly edit 5Ghz AP group and override WLAN Group settings on 5Ghz radio and map 5Ghz WLAN Group and disable 2.4Ghz radio.

On Default AP Group, Default WLANs group would be available on both radios.

If you want mix of both please create WLAN Group and select your desired WLANs, edit AP settings and map this WLAN group under its radio settings.

But you can not add same AP to different AP Groups, How can you mix the config of radios per WLAN?

I want to be able to turn off 2.4 on a AP Group, but that is not an option. It seems the only way to do this is 1 AP at a time.

I want to have the SAME SSID broadcast on some AP Groups in BOTH 2.4 and 5Ghz and ONLY on 5Ghz on other AP Groups.

There should be the same WLAN Service toggle that there is for the individual Edit AP page.

Am I missing something simple here that would let me use the AP groups and be able to toggle what Radios are enabled?

Hi Timothy,

AP group/Zone cannot disable 2.4 or 5 G radio. You have to use and map WLAN groups with AP group and change the AP group settings accordingly.

Refer below forum link where this is already answered. Though below thead talks about ZD settings but settings on vSZ are similar.

I still do not see a way to disable 2.4GHz at any level other than turning it off for each specific AP. It is not an option at the AP Group level or the WLAN group level. With Zone Director I was able to create an AP group that had the setting to not use the 2.4 GHz radio. When I wanted to have an AP use 5 GHz only (perhaps due to interference with other equipment), I would just move that AP into the group and it's 2.4 GHz radio would turn off. I don't see how to do that with SmartZone.

Hi there,

You can associate or disassociate a WLAN from 2.4 or 5G radio by playing with AP group and WLAN group settings.

I do not see how this works i created wlan group and ap group. i want 2.4g turned off. i get the following error when i try to turn off 2.4 on the group.

where is the setting to turn off 2.4 since i do not see it under the wlan group or the ap group. so far it seems we can only turn of 2.4 at an individual ap level

@craig_vroom You need to use AP/WLAN groups, not the WLAN Service option.

enabling disabling service will enable/disable the entire radio on specific AP.
