Hey Folks,
we are using vSZ in a VMware Environment, and since deployment the virtual Hardware Version of the VM is Compatibility ESXi 5.1 and later (VM version 9). Is it possible to upgrade the virtual Hardware?
Regards
Peter
Hi Peter,
I hope you are doing well.
Could you please share the current Virtual SmartZone (vSZ) firmware version?
Additionally, for clarification, when you mentioned "upgrading the virtual hardware," did you mean upgrading the ESXi VM version from 5.1 to a later version?
Looking forward to your response.
Hello Vasanth,
We are using:Controller Version 6.1.2.0.487Control Plane Software Version 6.1.2.0.253AP Firmware Version 6.1.2.0.2104with AP Patch: 6.1.2.0.2230Yes i mean the ESXi VM Version to a newer Version:
As per the SmartZone 6.1.2 Upgrade Guide, ESXi version 5.5 and later (with 7.0 or later recommended) is supported.
Based on this, the ESXi version should be upgradable. However, as ESXi is a third-party platform, we recommend reaching out to the VMware vendor for detailed guidance and support with the upgrade process.
On the SmartZone side, please ensure the following precautions are taken prior to the activity:
Perform a full system configuration and cluster backup, and download the backup files to a local PC.
Additionally, take a VM-level backup or snapshot from VMware to safeguard the current state.

the upgrade process itself isnt an issue. we did it a lot of times. but in the past we noticed some linux appliance dont like it if the hardware version is upgraded to a newer level, hence i was asking if there are already some experiences, cause the initial ovf template ist delivered with version 9.
i think i will just try and see what will happen.
updated to Compatibility ESXi 7.0 U2 and later (VM version 19) now, and no issues so far. Web-Interface is quite snappier now too.
