Dedicated master - Unleashed

mcordoba1

As a replacement for the ZoneDirector 1200, Dedicated Master is introduced in Unleashed 200.13.

Note: Only the R750 AP and the R850 AP can be elected as a Dedicated Master.

As compared to Unleashed bridge mode, the following features are supported in Dedicated Master mode:

  • Cross-network segment networking
  • Dedicated Master VLAN and AP VLAN
  • Smart Redundancy
  • Maximum capacity limit to 4,000 clients (compared to Unleashed bridge mode)
  • Tunnel WLAN
  • ZoneDirector AP migration to Unleashed network

To disable dedicated master a factory reset must be done.

Is important to highlight that this is different from setting a preferred master, as this setting is not bounded to an ap model, any other Ethernet-connected member AP can take the Master role. For more info on preferred master please visit Designating a Preferred Master AP

it also needs to be clarified about this:

we see the following in the "migration guide" for ZD1200, and it is not 100% clear
"In Dedicated mode, the following AP models are supported: R710, T610, T610s, R610, T710, T710s, R720, R510,
H510, H320, T310d, T310n, T310c, T310s, E510, C110, R320, M510, R750, R550, R650, T750, T750se, R850, H550,
R350, T350d, T350c, H350, and T350se.
NOTE
802.11n and 802.11ac Wave 1 AP models, such as the R500, R600, R700, H500, T300, R300, R310,
zf7xxx, and so on, are not supported in the Unleashed network. Ensure that these AP models are not
migrated to the Unleashed network."

specifically becasue :

"and so on, are not supported in the Unleashed network. Ensure that these AP models are not
migrated to the Unleashed network."what exactly does this mean?

the cloud network?

the network that has  "unleased" controllers on, that state clearly that the R500 does work, ESP.. as there is "unleased" firmeware for the R500

The whole statement &  PDF is confusing  about reusing generic terms without defining them.

Hello,

Thank you for your comments. There is a series of aps that are no longer supported on releases post 200.7,  such as the R500, R600, R700, H500, T300, R300, R310. Those aps will still work but will not be able to join networks that have the newest features that are available on 200.13 -200.14.

Please note that all aps on an Unleashed network must have the exact same software version in order to participate on the network.

For example, R500 does not support the latest versions of Unleashed, therefore, we do not recommend migrating this ap as the dedicated master feature will not be compatible with it.

Let us know if you have any other questions, I will be happy to assist.
