Some advantages/added features of using a controller include seamless roaming for time sensitive apps (ie VoIP, streaming video), Web based authentication, Mesh capabilities (coming soon to Unleashed), centralized WLAN management and network visibility, mapping, rogue detection/mitigation, auto-power/auto-channel AP adjustments, diagnostics, and more.

Hi Daniel,

All of the functionalities mentioned by Michael Brado is also available on Unleashed as well such as roaming for time sensitive apps (ie VoIP, streaming video), Web based authentication, Mesh capabilities (coming soon to Unleashed), centralized WLAN management and network visibility, mapping, rogue detection/mitigation, auto-power/auto-channel AP adjustments, diagnostics, and more.

The key differences are as follows

1. ZD 1200 supports up to 75 APs. If you think you are going to need much more than 3-5 APs then ZD 1200 could be your pick.

2. Since ZD 1200 is more scalable than Unleashed in terms of number of APs, client devices, WLANs etc. it supports WLAN and AP groups

3. ZD 1200 supports both tunnel and distributed/local-breakout architecture. Unleashed supports only local-break out as all APs in Unleashed network need to be part of the same L2.

4. ZD 1200 supports all of currently shipping 11ac APs and flagship WAVE-2 (R710) AP.

5. There are few feature differences presently between ZD 1200 and Unleashed. E.g: ZD 1200 supports Self-service guest pass.

Hope it helps you to make appropriate purchasing decision!
