captive portal authentication stuck at authenticating

Hello,

We have a ZoneDirector 1200 with R600 APs and have setup a WLAN to use captive portal with authentication via active directory.

This has been working fine for several years now but early this month, without changing any configuration, the active portal suddenly does not authenticate. It is stuck at "authenticating..."

The firmware on the ZD 1200 is 10.3.0.0 build 362

Hope someone can shed some light on this.

Hi @dionisio_iii_hi

On the ZD under AAA Servers tab, we have an option "Test Authentication/Accounting Servers Settings" Can you test and see if you are getting successful authentication with this test?

If not then it is something to do with the ZD and AAA server communication\settings.
Check the events in the AAA server if the request is hitting.
Check if PAP and CHAP is allowed on the AAA server side.
If yes, then try changing the Preshared key on the AAA server and configure the same on the ZD AAA server settings.

Thanks for that guide. That is actually what I was trying to look for to be able to test the authentication.

Turns out it was a firewall policy issue.
