ZD1200 Rack Ear Screws

Hello,
What size screws fasten the rack ears to a ZoneDirector 1200?
I took over administration duties from someone else and would like to rackmount the ZD1200. The ears are available, but not the screws.

Hello,

There are three common thread types for rack screws: 10-32, 12-24 and M6.
The legacy Ruckus ZD500 used Rack screws, 2 #8-32 x 3/4.

If you're mounting in a standard rack, I would go with the 10-32 screws as they would be the most common, and original rack screw size. Depending on your locale, the sizes or types may be different based on the kind of rack you wish to install this in.

Hey guys,

Found this post, but not sure I walked away with the answer out of it that I was looking for. I am looking for the screw size for mounting the rack ears to the side of the ZD1200 itself, not to the rack. I have made 3 trips to the hardware store buying (#8,#10,M2.5, M3, M4), but with no success. Now I don't know if my #8 & #10 are say #10-24 or #10-32 after reading this, but will go back tomorrow and verify.

Hi Trey,

I wasn't able to find the size of those screws, but I have a spare set from a recent RMA and compared the ZD1200 screws to some known sizes.The screws that fasten rack ears to the side of the ZD1200 have the same shaft diameter as a #6 screw with threading that is tighter than 32.

Wow, thanks for the pics. That was helpful. I think (think being the key word) they look to be #8-32 screws. To be safe, since the hardware store is a 40min drive from our work site, I will pick up #8-32, #6-32. Don't know what would be tighter threading than a 32, but will definitely look.

The next time our Ruckus Account Rep stops by to visit us, I plan to let him know what a pain this screw issue has been.

Thanks Tech Support for all your help on this. I will for sake of this thread reciprocate back this afternoon with the specifics that worked, to hopefully provide some other poor soul with some time savings. Least I can do for all your help. thanks again.

You're welcome. I don't know what would be tighter than a 32, either. I'm not sure if it's metric, something custom, or I'm just seeing things.

Ok, I’m of the opinion that whomever engineered this device doesn’t understand the term “standardization”. So I made 3 trips back and forth to the hardware store, until I finally removed the ZD1200 and took it with me.

We tried M2.5,M3,M4,#6-32,#8-32 and NONE of them fit. Best we can tell it’s like a 3.5M or some thread pattern that we can’t discern, which neither Home Depot or Lowe’s carries.

So if ANYONE from Ruckus reads this...What is that screw!!!!
