R7xx series in R6xx series mesh

Hi All,

We have an unleashed mesh with 3 R600's, we would like to add 2 more AP to this mesh. Should we go with R600 series itself or can we go for higher R700 series?

All are presently indoor and the the new once will also be installed indoors.

Hi,

You can not add R700 APs as they do not support Unleashed management. The R710 & R720 do though and will work with the R600 upto version 200.7

I would advise taking a look at the Mesh Best Practices Guide around tree depth and maximum hops as there are throughput and latency considerations to be made with this deployment type:

@ananth_rajagopal No problem. Will you replace all the R600's with R650's?

The two will not be compatible in an unleashed environment together as the R600 is not supported beyond unleashed version 200.7 and the R650 was introduced in version 200.9.

Oh! we didn't check that, thanks for the tip.

Our objective was to extend to more areas than what the existing 3 is covering. Wasn't thinking of replacing. That will mean getting 5 new devices of either Ruckus or another brand.

We will figure this out, Ruckus local partner is in touch and was actually exploring the point you made about R600s and R650s in the same network.

You are still able to extend the existing network, you can add the R600, R710, R720 AP models for example.

Here is a list of compatible AP models on Unleashed version 200.7:
