Hello,

I have 2 R550 APs and valid URL content filtering licenses. The filtering is active with "Streaming Media" unchecked, which should allow streaming websites such as Youtube to load. However, I keep getting "Video Unavailable" on Youtube because of the Content Filtering (I know this because as soon as I disable the Content Filtering, the videos load just fine). I've also added *.youtube.com and *.googlevideo.com to the Allow List, but no success.

What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated!

Hi!

Thank you for posting.

Could you please try these steps:

DNS Configuration Issue: URL filtering relies on DNS resolution to identify and allow or block domains. If the DNS settings on your R550 APs are inconsistent with the DNS settings on the client devices, filtering may not work as expected. After a reboot, cached DNS entries may be cleared or differ, causing issues with filtering. To resolve this:

Log in to the Unleashed AP Web UI.

Navigate to System -> Network Settings -> DNS.

Verify that the DNS IPs are correctly configured and match the DNS settings on the client devices.

AP Subnet Missing DNS Configuration: If the AP subnet does not have DNS configured, the AP cannot resolve URLs and apply the Allow List rules. Ensure that DNS servers are properly configured for the APs in your deployment.

Conflict Between URL Filtering and ARC: If Application Recognition & Control (ARC) is enabled alongside URL filtering, there may be a conflict in how traffic is processed. In such cases, disabling URL filtering might allow ARC to work correctly, but this would not resolve your issue since you are relying on URL filtering. If you are using ARC, you may need to check if both features are configured correctly.

Allow List Configuration: Ensure that the entries in the Allow List are correctly formatted. For example:

Use
*.youtube.com
and
*.googlevideo.com
to allow all subdomains.

Double-check for typos or incorrect entries.

Let me know how it goes and if you have any questions.
