Just taken Delivery of a pile of ICX8200 Switches - I want to stack 2 Units together: ICX8200-48ZP2-E2 & ICX8200-48P.

Unlike our Previous ICX7250 these new 8200 only have 4 10GB SFP+ Ports

I want to stack them with DAC Cables and have an Uplink Port for the Connection Back to the Core

Can someone tell me what to plug into each port to achieve this? The Documentation does not explain this basic wiring setup before powering up!

Any help much appreciated - Thanks in advance

Hi Chandini - Many thanks for the info - I had come across that document and the info on that page Number. Sorry I am not very well trained on these Switches. The Document shows Ports 1 & 3 for Stacking - On a 3 Unit Stack Linear it shows 1 to 3 going down the stack with ports 2 and 4 free on all units.

Figure 25 then shows a Two Unit Stack Linear using all 4 Ports with 4 Cables - Where does the Uplink Plug in? Also if you had a LAG you would need 2 Ports for the Uplinks!

In a three Unit stack would the Uplink Plug into Unit 3 Port 4 ?

In a three Unit Stack with a LAG would the LAG use Port 2 & Port 4

The 7250 Had 8 Ports and we had to Purchase a POD License to Stack and Open the 10GB

Sorry to be a bit thick but the Documents are not clear

Thanks for your Help Again ! We are replacing all our estate with these 4800 Units !!

Hey @Richl

There are many options, but if you want to use some of module 2 for uplinks, I would generally start with a ring topology similar to Figure 6 here:

https://docs.commscope.com/bundle/fastiron-10010-switchstackingguide/page/GUID-BDA8554F-4454-4333-A65E-CD513C131003.html

This would then leave X/2/2 and X/2/4 for uplink connections. Hope that helps!

Hi Ben

So on a 2 Unit "Ring" you would have 2 x Cables

Cable 1 - Unit 1 Port 1 to Unit 2 Port 3

Cable 2 - Unit 1 Port 3 to Unit 2 Port 1

With Ports 2 & 4 On Unit 2 for Uplink (can you also also Select Ports 2 & 4 on Unit 1? ) Only using Ports 2 & 4 on One Unit or the Other (not Both together)

Hey Rich,

That would work. In your scenario, you could use 1/2/2 1/2/4 2/2/2 2/2/4 for uplink (or any regular data link). A common thing we see in your example would be an uplink in the form of a LAG for redundancy. In this example, you could LAG 1/2/2 2/2/2 together. There are tons of options here and really it is your personal preference as to how much bandwidth, redundancy, etc. you want to build into your solution. Hope that helps!

That’s great Ben thanks for clearing that up - just as a matter of interest how would the Linear stacking example have an uplink when all the 4 ports have Dac cables fitted with nothing left for the uplink!
