Why are HP printers identified as an AP?

I have an HP 7520 connecting to an R510 (Unleashed). I notice it's being detected as a rogue AP. Why does Ruckus see it as an AP versus just a client? Is there a setting on the printer that is causing this? Is there a way to white list it in Unleased so it is not seen as a malicious rogue AP?

Hi Michael,

It's because the HP printers have a built in AP for peer printing from phones etc without the need to install drivers etc. I'm not sure about white-listing as I tend to turn this feature off on the printers

Hi Michael, Gideon nailed it—HP printers like the 7520 have Wi-Fi Direct acting as an AP for peer printing, which Ruckus flags as rogue. Disable it via the printer’s Network settings or whitelist the MAC in Unleashed’s Rogue AP Detection.
