Both Self-Healing methods ChannelFly and Background Scanning, use the 20 sec (default) background scanning to look at other channels than the one they are servicing clients on, to build a table of interference/SSIDs seen on the other channels. If the CF or BS thresholds for a channel change is met, Background Scanning will move 2.4G to channel 1/6/11, while ChannelFly utilizes all 11 of the 2.4G channels available (in USA). But yes, you need the bottom Background Scanning on, for either Self-Healing method to analzye other than service channel info.
