Do I need to upgrade my standalone AP's firmware?

Hi everyone,

I have two r600 AP's and their software versions are 100.0.0.0.127

Is there a need to update this to the latest?

Everything is working perfectly but if the general opinion is yes, then ok.

However, I took the liberty of downloading the latest version, however, all the files seem to be TXT files.

Is this correct? is it the "RUCKUS-UPGRADE-MIB.txt" file i use?

Working perfectly...then you've answered you own question.
Latest and greatest all wonderful but best to look at release notes first and see if there is something fixed or added that you will find beneficial.

However in my experience upgrades several months old (as most recent release is) would have been pulled (or fixed) if problematic. So I would be happy to upgrade just to stay current. Still read the release notes for your model (always)!

Also from a cursory glance the latest standalone upgrade is a 258MB download (with numerous files covering all current APs).
Standalone AP Software 100.1.0.0.194 (All APs) don't see any text files in there.

My fault, i think i must have downloaded the release notes file!

Anyway, ive just downloaded the zip file relevant to my AP, so do i unzip it or let the AP do it?

No - you make a reasoned decision based on comments and checking any release notes for caveats, pitfalls or known problems, not a snap decision on my say-so. It is your call not mine.

Just the fact you are ready to rush in means you shouldn't!

Ive actually just read the release notes and there doesn't seem to be any mention of improvements listed for the R600, except a WEB UI tweak so ill leave it for now i think.
