Hi Fernando,

This system was installed about 5 years ago when the home was built.

1. Maybe there have been some brownouts in the past, but I’ve rebooted the system a few times since installation because of inconsistent Wi-Fi at the edges of the house. At one point I was getting 70% throughput in a corner room (420 Mbps out of 600 Mbps measured at 7150 switch), but that could fluctuate to 25% or even down to 4%. Maybe it’s due to the beam forming of the 802.11ac? I figured the best solution might be to add an access point, which is why I bought an R650.

2. What website or app do I enter that login info to access the system?

3. Lights do not go on at all when I connect via the 2.5G PoE port in the R650 to one of the open ports of the 7150 section with 12 grouped ports. If I disconnect one of the R510 units and connect to the port where that was connected to, it gets power but no data is transmitted.

4. It says neither unleashed nor zone flex on both the box and device. I bought this through Amazon a few days ago. Should I return it for a different device?

Thanks!

Kaz

We've been having inconsistent or slow Wi-Fi in certain rooms (they're at the corners of the house, so not surprising). After troubleshooting, I've decided that adding a Ruckus access point may be a reasonable solution. But in trying that, I've encountered some hurdles and am hoping someone in the community or Ruckus could offer advice.

Lennar didn't leave us with Ruckus login info when we bought the new home, so I don't know how to get into the system to check or modify things. What app/website should I use to get in?

Our house has a 7150 switch in the electric box, and what seem to be two R510 access points. I bought an R650 today and connected it to a port in a room that is connected to the 7150, but the R650 doesn't light up. Even if I connect the R650 to one of the ports on the 7150 that was used to go into an R510, it gets powered on but doesn't provide Wi-Fi.

Thanks!

Kaz

Hi Fernando,

The R650 should be a new item (not second-hand). On the seller's page on Amazon, it says that "This is the exact same hardware as the Unleashed model - but with different firmware." Is it important that I update the firmware to Unleashed?

Videos seem to assume that some Ruckus device is set to 192.168.0.1. For my setup, my COX modem is set to that address, and the 7150 is connected to that COX modem. Does this change what I need to do?

In order to work the Firmware version should be the same as the other Access Points

It refers to 192.168.0.1 as default but if your access point turns on and the PWR light is solid green it means that it was able to obtain an IP from your Local ( COX ) router which we must find out what it is.

I will leave you a short guide how to identify or locate the IP address of your devices.

How to find my Ruckus “Devices IP address” using free applications

Ruckus unleashed upgrade

If the devices is running zone flex here is a short guide how to preform the upgrade to unleashed

Hi Fernando,

Thanks to you, I was able to make some progress! I was able to log into the system and update the firmware for the two R510 units and the new R650, all to the same version that is unleashed (200.13.6.1.319).

But to do that, I found that I can only power or work with an access point when it's connected via one of the original ports that the R510 units were in. If I connect an R510 or R650 into one of the other open ports of the 12, nothing happens. Do these ports need to be enabled?

The Ruckus console tells me that even though the R650 is working, it's capability is degraded due to there not being enough power. Is this expected, even though I'm using the 2.5G PoE port to the 7150? If I buy the power adapter, can I expect throughput to get better? Currently, the R650 doesn't seem to be using the 2.4G band, which is what I really need to get through certain walls.

For the PoE on the switch we should access to the switch and check if the PoE is disable on other ports.

By default the power setup for the R650 is af for that reason is degreed you can move it to AT in the following to have full capabilities guide :

https://docs.commscope.com/bundle/unleashed-200.9-onlinehelp/page/GUID-E471A9AF-2F43-4DA4-9A12-8A9BD202B543.html

R650

https://docs.commscope.com/bundle/unleashed-200.9-onlinehelp/page/GUID-12E6EFCF-E117-47FA-9D07-FE2ED9D39307.html#GUID-12E6EFCF-E117-47FA-9D07-FE2ED9D39307__SECTION_6CE98F88B01F4CF6B1D9C65314D969B1

As I mentioned, the speed also depends on the cable capabilities, how the port is configured, the speed, etc.

Hi Fernando. I was able to change the R650 to AT, and it uses 2.4 GHz now. Thanks!

But for enabling the other ports in the group of 12 on the 7150, I'm not sure how. When I look at Switches in the Unleashed dashboard, nothing is there (total: 0).

When I try adding an IP address of one of the devices that comes up as a Ruckus wireless router on IP Scanner, it says "ICX Switch is Connecting" but also "*Unleashed system only supports ICX firmware version 08.0.90 or later."

Hi @kaz

1-For this we must locate the IP address for the Switch (this is a logical address assigned by your local router (ISP) to the switch) I will leave a quick guide:

How to find my Ruckus “Devices IP address” using free applications

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-find-my-Ruckus-Devices-IP-address-using-free-applications/td-p/47027

2-After that we must remotely access to device, I leave a guide on how to access to the switch

Here is a quick guide how to access via CLI of the devices

How to remotely access to 'ICX 7150-12P' or 'access points' "Network devices"

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-remotely-access-to-ICX-7150-12P-or-access-points-quot/td-p/47388

Try SSH and Telnet options

If you can access to the Command line should look like this

ICX7150-C12 Switch>

3-Write the following commands:

Note: Hit Enter to accept each command:

ICX7150-C12 Switch>enable
ICX7150-C12 Switch#show version
ICX7150-C12 Switch#show inline power
ICX7150-C12 Switch#show inline power detail

Copy and paste the results on the chat (here)

If you cannot access via IP we can access physical using a console cable

How to console in the ICX-7150-C12p

https://community.ruckuswireless.com/t5/RUCKUS-Support-for-Lennar-Homes/How-to-console-in-the-ICX-7150-12c-using-a-Windows-Machine/td-p/46759

Once you are log in via console go to the Step '3'

Best Regards

I tried all of those, and they all fail:

➜ ~ ssh-keygen -R 192.168.0.132
Host 192.168.0.132 not found in /Users/kaz/.ssh/known_hosts
➜ ~ ssh super@192.168.0.132
Unable to negotiate with 192.168.0.132 port 22: no matching host key type found. Their offer: ssh-rsa

The IP address is the only one that comes up with Ruckus in the name in IP Scanner, so I'm assuming it's the right one. It's also the IP address that brings up the Unleashed dashboard when I put it into a web browser.

There's another one 192.168.0.159, but that one doesn't bring up a page in a browser. Strange that there are only two IP addresses that say Ruckus because I have two AP devices and a switch.

I see on the Unleashed dashboard that 159 is the R650 and 132 is the R510. So does the switch take on the same IP address as the Master (R510)?

Hi @kaz

That IP address is from the Access Point we are looking the IP address from the ICX-Switch , sometimes it shows as unknown device , ruckus switch or router , ICX-7150 C12 P , or unidentified.

Correct the switch should be on the same range between 192168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254

Maybe if you can login in into your router you can locate the IP address for your switch most of the times your local router is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.254 copy and past these IPs on a URL.

OR reboot your local router ISP to refresh the IP addressing.
