No. Look into a management appliance like Untangle or Nomadix.

Some routers may offer this feature as well.

Hi MLG,

thanks for the advise.
So need a third party to manage the data usage.

Ruckus Wireless supports RADIUS Accounting with interim updates and CoA-DM Messages. We can send RADIUS accounting data to your RADIUS auth / acct / billing system and will disconnect a user when the RADIUS server tells us to. This method does allow some data leakage though, as interim updates are only sent every few minutes.

If you are looking for true volume based cut-off with no leakage, then you should investigate a Hotspot Gateway solution like Nomadix, Ucopia, Mikrotik, Untangle etc.

Often these gateways will have additional specialized features like property management system integration etc for verticals like hospitality.

There are minor tweaks you can apply: bandwidth restriction and scheduling WLAN availability.

Might be useful in some scenarios but they are not ways to monitor or set data limits.

Indeed. I've found the #1 contributor to high data usage is adaptive-bitrate-streaming online video. Limiting video (or just everything) to a few mbit will dramatically cut down on the ways that the average customer is going to use a lot of data.

Of course, having an actual traffic shaping / accounting gateway solution would give a lot more flexibility and power, but sometimes the simple solutions are good enough.
