Hi - Currently we have a Zone Director ZD3000 and about 25 older Zone Flex access points (ZF7962) the ZD is using version 9.3.4.0 build 15. We are currently looking to add a few outdoor access points but want to see if I'm able to add different models with different software/firmware versions. We are looking to cover areas of about 400 feet or so. If anyone has any suggestions on models that will work, I'd really appreciate it.
Hi Matt,

ZF7962 is supported only till 9.8.3 version, so if you want to keep this AP model in the network, then 9.8.3 is the highest version supported.

There are number of outdoor APs supported on 9.8.3 but all are EOL. You may have to decide if you want to keep ZF7962 and find EOL APs (I don't think you can by EOL devices from authorized Ruckus resellers) or you have to remove old 25 APs and buy new set of APs (latest outdoor and indoor APs).

To know supported APs on 9.8.3 version, please refer below release notes.

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/documents/2113-zonedirector-9-8-3-mr3-refresh2-release-notes/download

If you wish to buy all new APs (outdoor and indoor) then ZD3000 can be upgraded upto
10.2.1 version. There are good number of Ruckus APs which are available for purchase and supported on 10.2.1.

Refer release notes for supported APs on 10.2.1.

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/documents/3254-zonedirector-10-2-1-mr1-refresh5-release-notes/download

Also note that ZD cannot use different software version for different AP models at the same time, means you can have single firmware running on ZD and APs.

You may try v/SZ if you wish to use old and new APs on different firmware versions. vSZ supports 3 major software versions for the APs.

Regards,
Syamantak Omer
