R510 Unleashed - disable 802.11b

Hi Guys,

iam running a mesh with 3 R510 AP with Unleashed Firmware 200.11.10.5.195.

There should be an AP-Group Option for configuring 11n only Mode.

But there is no such Option. This one is missing.

What did i wrong? Why there is no Option as described in Online help?

Yeah, that is annoying. Every now and then Ruckus decides to remove or hide functionality that might confuse the 2% of users who are inexperienced while complicating life for the other 98%. They also removed proxy-arp at some point. You can disable 11b by enabling OFDM mode on each WLAN. If you have more than one wlan, the commands should be executed for each wlan. Here is an example to enable OFDM only mode on two wlans - "Blue1" and "Blue2"

en (or enable)

wlan Blue1

ofdm-only

exit

wlan Blue2

ofdm-only

exit

If desired, you can enable proxy arp with the command "proxy-arp" after the ofdm-only command.

You can also use the command "show" to verify your changes and see other wlan info.

To disable ofdm-only or proxy-arp, insert the word "no" in front of the command ("no ofdm-only").

hi,

i changed the wifi to ofdm-only, but there was a client connecting with 11b.

i blocked/released the client but it still was connecting with 11b.

Can you CLI to the wlan context and run the show command and verify if the state of OFDM Only is "Enabled" ?

i changed the settings on master-AP. this changes should be synced to the other ap within the mesh?

It's enabled alright... Is this client 11b only? Are you sure it's not connecting with 11g? I'm not an Unleashed user so we might need some help from one of the Ruckus guys. They're pretty good about chiming in.

Hi Daniel,

I believe the '11n only mode' feature has returned to the GUI in Unleashed version 200.12. The screenshot on page 267 of the 200.12 UG shows the feature in the AP group config, as prior to 200.11.

@daniel_hainich I had the same issue on my unleashed network at home. OFDM-Only, but my wifi printer remained attached at b. I had to go in and make changes to the printer (Ad-Hoc mode was enabled) and that cleared it. Be sure to check the client as well.

You can prevent b clients/traffic if you set the min-bssrate to 12. The previous answers to set n only and ofdm only are also accurate and huge benefits to wireless performance.

This is likely a UI bug as 802.11b does not support OFDM. It was more likely actually connected using g or n standards.
