Not really a question for the community, but regular Ruckus support told me I had to post here and get a response from a "Support Engineer" to get an RMA request 🤷. Bit odd, but here it is:

Lennar Smart Home system installed w/ my home. Unit is an ICX 7150-C12P w/ 2x APs connected to it. Also has all the wall sockets from the house connected to it.

The switch boots but seems to be causing a broadcast storm (network speeds drop, the network becomes unstable, and then typically drops traffic completely. Occasionally reboots itself) shortly after power on. Rebooting it resolves the issue temporarily, but it typically takes the network down again after a few minutes.

Unit has been factory reset multiple times, but problem persists. The problem still occurs after switching the APs (and other connected devices) to different ports. Network is unusable while the device is powered on and connected.

Replacing the switch with a cheap unmanaged PoE switch has resolved the issue. All the same devices are connected, so this unit likely has faulty hardware.

Just trying to claim the lifetime warranty on the switch, so hopefully a support engineer can approve this. Thanks!

I have been in my lennar home since 2019. I recently started having issues where items in our home would lose connection for a few seconds and reconnect. I decided to upgrade my modem/router from a netgear c7000v2 to a netgear cm3000 modem and Flint2 router. Now I can see my network but when I connect to it, it is extremely slow and most of the time the webpage won’t even load. My TVs won’t even stay connected. I’ve tried a bunch of reconfigs in the APs and the router but nothing has helped. I recently performed the firmware upgrade on my switch as well as I thought that might be the problem

Hello RUCKUS Lennar Home Community Support,
I am troubleshooting the RUCKUS ICX7150-C12P switch installed in my Lennar home after my wired network stopped working.
Using a serial console connection with PuTTY, I was able to access the boot monitor. During startup, the switch reported errors including:
ecc_errors after reading...
iproc_nand_read_page returned 2
NAND read ... failed -22
Bad FIT kernel image format!
ERROR: can't get kernel image!
The primary image failed to boot, and the switch attempted the secondary image.
Following the RUCKUS password-recovery instructions provided in this community, at the ICX7150-Boot> prompt I entered:
no password
The switch responded:
OK! Skip password check when the system is up.
I then entered boot. The switch successfully booted, PoE returned, the Ethernet ports became active, my RUCKUS access points came back online, and my wired Ethernet service is currently working.
However, I still have two concerns:

Username/password recovery
After the switch boots, I receive:
User Access Verification
Please Enter Login Name:
Leaving the username and password blank results in User login failure, and the previous credentials I tried do not work.
What exact steps should I follow after using no password to gain CLI access and create a new administrator username/password? I want to make sure the new credentials are permanently saved.

NAND/ECC errors and future power outages
Because the switch produced NAND/ECC errors and could not load the primary kernel image, I am concerned that the switch may fail to boot normally after the next power outage or restart.
Can you please advise:
Whether these NAND/ECC and Bad FIT kernel image format errors indicate a corrupted primary firmware image or possible flash-memory failure.
Whether the primary firmware image should be repaired/reinstalled.
How to verify that both primary and secondary images are healthy.
Whether the switch should be considered for replacement/RMA if the NAND/ECC errors persist.
How to make sure the switch will automatically recover and boot normally after a future power outage without requiring another serial-console intervention.
The network is currently operational, so I would prefer not to factory-reset the switch or make changes that could disrupt the working configuration unless necessary.
Thank you for your assistance.

Recently there was multiple power outages back to back since then my ruckus switch isn’t working, it has power but sys label is stuck with amber light. None of my access points are powering up either since then. As I found here in the forum, I tried resetting many times by using reset button and simultaneously plugging the power, but it didn’t work. Now I learned it might failed to reboot and corrupted and I need to reinstall image or something of that nature. But I am unclear on how to do that by consoling from my laptop into switch? Or if the problem doesn’t require reinstalling image but something else? Any help here is greatly appreciated as I am stuck and switch isn’t working from last few weeks.

I have reset both my router and the switch by unplugging them and plugging them back in. I called Verizon and they said everything is good on their end. I have been able to connect to the my Ruckus dashboard and it shows the switch is disconnected. I’ve used the IP scanner and put in both IPs that appear because it doesn’t designate which is the switch. I have intermittent internet access or none at all. Here is a picture of my dashboard. Please help.

:: IP ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT IN 8200 DEVICES::

In 8200, The Switching image was deprecated with 10.0 and each platform will only use one image starting with 10.0.

ALL the L3 image support L2 features starting with 10.0, Only routing image are available for all supported models.
Switching features are still available in the routing image.

>The 8200 by design doesn't support l2 image so there is no ip default-gateway command.

>Instead we need to specify the route to forward the traffic to an external subnet. We can either use static routes, default routes or a routing protocol.

>If you want to use the ICX8200 switch as a L2 device follow the below steps:

You just need to add a default route to the device, And then add the VLANs you want. The ICX8200 model can only run L3 firmware images. That's why we need to add a default route for it to start behaving as an L2 switch, where it is only passing VLAN traffic in and out. We also need to identify the VLAN where this default route communication goes through. And then create a virtual interface and assign the IP that will be used for management and for communication with the default gateway.

Example:

-Create the virtual interface and assign the IP form MGMT and default route:

ICX8200-switch#conf t
ICX8200-switch(config)#vlan 10
ICX8200-switch(config-vlan10)#interface ve 10
ICX8200-switch(config-if-ve10)#ip address 10.10.10.2/24

Here's the command for the default route:

ICX8200-switch#conf t
ICX8200-switch(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0/0 10.10.10.1 (IP address of your ICX7850 router, which is the default gateway for the management vlan)

ICX8200 with the code 10.00, this code only came in routing, so you can configure the IP address under a VE, loopback or port.

Beginning with the 09.0.00 release, when a VLAN is configured, a virtual routing interface is statically mapped to the VLAN ID. However,
only when you issue the interface ve-num command does the virtual interface get created.

Please refer to the below link of the L3 Routing configuration Guide under Subheading "Assigning an IPv4 Address to an Ethernet Port"

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/documents/4466-fastiron-10-0-10-ga-layer-3-routing-configuration-guide

Please refer to the below link of the L3 Routing Configuration Guide under Subheading "Assigning an IP address to a virtual interface"

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/documents/4466-fastiron-10-0-10-ga-layer-3-routing-configuration-guide

Please refer to the below link of the L3 Routing Configuration Guide under Subheading "Assigning an IP address to a loopback interface"

https://support.ruckuswireless.com/documents/4466-fastiron-10-0-10-ga-layer-3-routing-configuration-guide

Hi,

I have an ICX7250-48P (version SPR 8095m) that is exhibiting some strange behavior with RADIUS and I am unsure if it is my configuration or if this is how MAC Auth is expected to work on the ICX line. For reference, I have configured RADIUS before and am currently using another server for a few wireless access points we have. For testing purposes, I was going to point all clients to the default guest VLAN (50) using the DEFAULT in RADIUS. The ICX receives this and changes the port over but then immediately terminates the session which thrashes the clients back and forth between the blackhole VLAN (default: 666) and the default guest VLAN (50). This basically makes the switch unusable since no traffic can get through. I will post my auth config, logs, and RADIUS config below as well. It would be much appreciated if there was anyone out there that could provide any bit of help!

Thank you,

Scott

RADIUS config:

# Default to VLAN 50
DEFAULT Auth-Type := Accept
Tunnel-Type = "VLAN",
Tunnel-Medium-Type = "IEEE-802",
Tunnel-Private-Group-Id = "50",
Reply-Message = "Hello, %u"

show run auth

authentication
auth-order mac-auth dot1x
auth-default-vlan 666
max-sessions 1024
reauth-timeout 0
mac-authentication enable
mac-authentication enable ethe 1/1/12 ethe 1/1/48
mac-authentication password-format xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
mac-authentication dot1x-disable
!

show logging:

Nov 12 20:36:10:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is deleted from Dynamic Vlan 50 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:10:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is added into Auth-Default Vlan 666 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:10:N:MACAUTH: port 1/1/12 mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 vlan 50: authenticated Session is Cleared[Termination-Cause: Host-Moved]
Nov 12 20:36:09:N:MAC Authentication succeeded for [c8f7.50fb.0ec4 50] on port 1/1/12
Nov 12 20:36:09:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is deleted from Auth-Default Vlan 666 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:09:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is added into Dynamic Vlan 50 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:09:N:MACAUTH: Port 1/1/12 Mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 - received AAA-ACCEPT
Nov 12 20:36:09:C:MACAUTH: RADIUS server 10.32.0.1 Accepted for c8f7.50fb.0ec4 with (U:50 )
Nov 12 20:36:09:N:MACAUTH: port 1/1/12 mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 vlan 666: Session is created
Nov 12 20:36:08:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is deleted from Dynamic Vlan 50 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:08:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is added into Auth-Default Vlan 666 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:08:N:MACAUTH: port 1/1/12 mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 vlan 50: authenticated Session is Cleared[Termination-Cause: Host-Moved]
Nov 12 20:36:07:N:MAC Authentication succeeded for [c8f7.50fb.0ec4 50] on port 1/1/12
Nov 12 20:36:07:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is deleted from Auth-Default Vlan 666 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:07:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is added into Dynamic Vlan 50 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:07:N:MACAUTH: Port 1/1/12 Mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 - received AAA-ACCEPT
Nov 12 20:36:07:C:MACAUTH: RADIUS server 10.32.0.1 Accepted for c8f7.50fb.0ec4 with (U:50 )
Nov 12 20:36:07:N:MACAUTH: port 1/1/12 mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 vlan 666: Session is created
Nov 12 20:36:05:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is deleted from Dynamic Vlan 50 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:05:N:FLEXAUTH: Port 1/1/12 is added into Auth-Default Vlan 666 as mac-vlan member
Nov 12 20:36:05:N:MACAUTH: port 1/1/12 mac c8f7.50fb.0ec4 vlan 50: authenticated Session is Cleared[Termination-Cause: Host-Moved]

Hello All,

In this article, I will explains an issue with customer DHCP configuration (related to DNS Domain name) which can potentially cause AP connectivity issue with RUCKUS Cloud.

Symptoms

If you hit this issue, AP may show online but as soon as you make any configuration changes on venue, AP, WLAN, it will result AP state changing to "Never contacted Cloud".

AP will not show any new event, since the time of its last successful connection to Cloud.
In some cases AP will also show in "Operational - applying configuration" state on Cloud UI and will never complete applying configuration.

AP will still serve clients with last known configuration (if AP was not rebooted).

How to troubleshoot?

Run a capture on switch port where AP is connected and reboot the AP.
Note: This will not help if AP is configured with static IP configuration.

Check the uplink packet capture and analyze (look at the DHCP Offer frame) the DHCP packets for the DHCP process.

You will see DHCP server sending DNS domain name information.

When Domain Name is added to the DHCP and configured on AP, AP will append the AP-Cloud discovery URL which is device.ruckus.cloud to device.ruckus.cloud.xyz.com. Because of this change in Cloud URL, AP will not be able to reach the correct controller IP (usually DNS resolution will fail) and will eventually fail to connect to Cloud.

In case domain specific URL (in this case "device.ruckus.cloud.xyz.com") has a valid DNS entry on customer/public DNS server, it will further result in connection failure as resulted IP address will not match with the correct Cloud controller IP address.

You can also factory reset one AP and then SSH into it (with default credentials super/sp-admin), run below commands to confirm if AP is getting the DNS Domain name configuration from DHCP.

Run and review the output of "get dns" command.

Output when DNS Domain name is received from DHCP server.

rkscli:
rkscli: get dns
Allow DNS from DHCP: Enabled
Ethernet DNS servers:
DNS 1 : 8.8.8.8
DNS 2 : 8.8.4.4

IPv6 DNS Setting

DNS Domain
<None>

DNS Search List
<None>
OK

Output when DNS Domain name is received from DHCP server

rkscli:
rkscli: get dns
Allow DNS from DHCP: Enabled
Ethernet DNS servers:
DNS 1 : 8.8.8.8
DNS 2 : 8.8.4.4

DNS Search List
<None>
OK

Resolution

While issue is impacting RUCKUS APs, this is completely an issue caused by customer DNS and/or DHCP server configuration.

Follow below steps to fix the issue.

Check and remove the domain name configuration from DHCP IP pool which is used for RUCKUS Access points.

Just updating the configuration on DHCP server may not fix APs as APs will still hold old IP which has valid lease time. In this case you may reboot the AP so that AP can get the fresh IP lease from DHCP server without DNS domain name. Also clearing the IP lease from DHCP server can help.

Even after rebooting or re-requesting IP from DHCP if issue is not solved, remove the AP from the Cloud and re-add.

If you continue seeing issue even after fixing the DHCP configuration, please contact RUCKUS Support and report the issue.

I hope this will help!

Overview of Port Mirroring and Monitoring

Port mirroring is an effective network traffic monitoring technique. It involves duplicating each packet entering or leaving a specific port on a network switch and sending this copy to another port for analysis. This technique is particularly useful for diagnostic and debugging purposes, as well as for enhancing network security.

To set up port mirroring, you designate a 'monitor port' from which packets are copied, and a 'mirror port' that receives these copies. Both incoming and outgoing packets from the monitor port are sent to the mirror port. A network analysis tool, like Wireshark, can then be connected to the mirror port to capture and analyze the traffic. This process allows for detailed examination of data packets without interfering with the normal operation of the network.

Standalone(config)# mirror-port ethernet x/x/x - This command designates the connection to the analyzer tool.
Standalone(config)# interface ethernet x/x/x - This command selects the specific interface from which data capture is desired.
Standalone(config-if-e1000-x/x/x)# monitor ethernet x/x/x both - This command establishes the monitoring of the specified interface and directs the traffic to the analyzer tool.

Verification of Configuration:

To verify the configuration, use the "show mirror" command. This will display the current mirror configuration, confirming the setup for traffic capture and analysis.

Here is an example using the given topology. Our objective is to capture traffic from port 1/2/1 and redirect it to an analyzer tool connected to port 1/1/1, where Wireshark is installed.

tl:dr: does mct have a future or is it getting phased out.

heya,

we recently got 4 7850's to replace some aging cisco nexus's, they won our public tender easily & specs are impressive. we are a heavy user of vpc on the nexus side, but replacing this with mct has proven to be a challenge. our tender specified as minimal feature l3 redundancy for ipv6, so we're bound to 10.0.10 or higher.

we also required link bundeling over 2 devices running independant operating systems while presenting themselves as a single device to the other end: which mct (multi chassis trunking) provides.

finally, pvrst needed to be supported on all links.

which is when the fun started as any vlan that becomes an mct vlan disables stp. both our partner & their ruckus liasons always came with examples from the 8.0.95 docs ( https://docs.commscope.com/bundle/fastiron-08095-l2guide/page/GUID-F20E9DED-FCDA-4C3C-BBC7-19127E9E18FC.html ), in specific the last 2 mct chapters. those are notably abcent (with good reason i guess) from 10.0 docs.

in the end i got a config working with mct + pvrst when using stp in "single" mode. while not what we intended it can be argued that this meets the minimum reqs detailed in our tender.

my current view of mct is not really possive after all this. documentation for the 10.0.x train as it stands is quite inconsistent, troubleshooting pretty barebones, created quite a few inconsistent (different stp protocols, differing vlans, etc) mct's which still got accepted, snmp support for mct also seems to have gotten lost somewhere along the way, issu for clusters seems to talk about stacks instead. our partner also let slip they only had 1 client which used mct & tried to push us to going for a stack instead.

however, i'm running out of time & need to get these in production. since our partner has been excellent in other projects they won i don't want to return these switches due to being non complaint (since i already sent back the 8200's due to no redundant&hot swap fans & psu's - at least the model they proposed) and as noted above mct in 10.0 seems like it can use some love: i'll be going for stacking instead of clusters.

long intro , now to the question: what's the plan for mct? from what the rumormill told me 10.0.x was a major rework of the code make it less complex going forward. is mct low in the todo queue (for whatever reason), is a replacement in the works, is it being phased out? i started this project on 10.0.10a, used each release including cd versions up until the 10.0.20 i'm on now, but the release notes are silent on mct items.

all that said: kudos to the ruckus support staff. this might be the second time in 20 years that support was lightning fast to respond, actually knew the products they support, had frequent & to the point feedback. and actually got the bugs resolved.

(this was fun: "ping vrf tstix 10.40.69.252 source 10.40.69.2532" - and 2532 is not a typo - case 01631172)

Admitting out the gate that I'm new to Ruckus CLI & really using the Ruckus Cloud for Switches. We've had Ruckus AP's on the Cloud platform for about a year (and about 7yrs of ZoneDirector prior). We've been running HP/Aruba Procurve switches via CLI for over 10yrs. We went with Ruckus cloud with the idea of lowering the barrier to entry for the rest of the team.

Our environment is not terribly complex and routing is handled by an external device so the switches don't need to handle this. I'm trying to do as much of the config via the cloud and am not having a whole log of success.

First thing is setting up one of the Distribution switches. We currently have VLAN1 configured as a tagged member on the trunk port between the Distribution and Core. I don't appear to be able to assign VLAN1 as a tagged member on the port via the Cloud UI. Is this a UI limitation or a Ruckus limitation?

Second is that if I make "multiple" configuration changes on a port it in the Cloud UI and click apply it seems to fail. For example trying to apply multiple Tagged VLANs to the uplink port (one of them being set as a voice VLAN) and it fails everytime. I can apply 1 or 2 VLANs and that seems to work if none of them are the voice vlan. I can't add the voice VLAN and remove another VLAN at the same time. The uplink port that I'm trying to configure is NOT the port that the switch is connected to the "Internet" through. The uplink port currently has no cable plugged into it.

Am I experiencing a learning moment or are these issues that I should take to support?

As a Ruckus Technical Assistance Center (TAC) engineer, this knowledge article aims to provide guidance on assigning radio profiles to AP groups within the same venue in the RUCKUSOne platform. This specific tutorial addresses the scenario where a customer wishes to disable the 2.4GHz radio for a WLAN in one particular AP group while allowing clients to connect using both radios in other AP groups.

Customer Environment: The customer's setup comprises 128 APs organized into three AP groups. They seek to disable the 2.4GHz radio for a specific WLAN within one AP group, while maintaining functionality across both radios for the remaining AP groups.

Resolution: Below are the steps to configure radio profiles for WLANs across AP groups:

1. Navigate to the desired Venue within the RUCKUSOne platform.

2. Select the "Networks" tab.

3. Locate and click on the WLAN configured for the Guest network.

4. Within the WLAN settings, click on the highlighted "Radios" option.

5.Select "Specific AP groups" to customize radio settings for individual AP groups.

6. Choose the desired AP group where you wish to disable the 2.4GHz radio for the WLAN.

7. Toggle the radio options to enable or disable as per requirements for the selected AP group.

8. Click "Apply" to save the changes.

9. Hover over the "Radios" option of the specific WLAN to verify that the settings have been successfully applied to the chosen AP group.

Conclusion: By following the outlined steps, users can effectively manage radio profiles for WLANs across different AP groups within the RUCKUSOne platform. This capability allows for granular control over wireless network configurations, ensuring optimal performance and customization based on specific deployment requirements.

If you found this information helpful, please consider clicking on the "KUDOs" button to assist other users.

Regards,

Vasanth Edward || Snr TSE

RUCKUS Networks, CommScope!

Make sure that the switches that are to be updated are of the specific venue.

2 . If there are multiple locations managed under the same venue and only a specific location needs to be updated : then this may not be the best option to follow.

3 . In case, point 2 applied to you : then device local updates are best way to go about the upgradation. Via TFTP,USB etc.

if you are not an MSP, and there are multiple locations of install : but all are devices are under the same venue.
Then device local updates are best way to go about the upgradation. Via TFTP,USB etc.

If different locations are managed under different venues, there should be no issues in following this process/procedure.

To ensure proper communication between the APs and switches with RUCKUS One, customers must allow some FQDNs and Ports in their Firewall.

Customer Environment

APs and Switches deployed behind a firewall and inbound/outbound traffic needs to be allowed for successful communication between RUCKUS network devices and RUCKUS One.

Symptoms

Newly added APs and switches are in Never Contacted Cloud state, not joining RUCKUS One.

Resolution

To allow RUCKUS One to function properly, please configure your firewall to allow for outbound connectivity according to the following guidelines:

Outbound HTTPS (TCP 443) from APs and Switches to:

https://ap-registrar.ruckuswireless.com
https://sw-registrar.ruckuswireless.com
https://ocsp.comodoca.com
https://ocsp.entrust.net
https://ruckus.cloud
https://eu.ruckus.cloud
https://asia.ruckus.cloud
https://device.ruckus.cloud
https://device.eu.ruckus.cloud
https://device.asia.ruckus.cloud
https://storage.googleapis.com
http://ocsp.godaddy.com

Outbound SSH (TCP 22) from APs and Switches to:

device.ruckus.cloud
device.eu.ruckus.cloud
device.asia.ruckus.cloud

Network Requirements

The following list of firewall ports is required to allow APs to enable Cloud discovery and continued connection with the Cloud

Checking the firewall ports is the first step of troubleshooting if an AP is unable to connect to the Cloud or disconnects from the Cloud.
