R770 Firmware 122.0.0.0.722 Downgrade for vSZ 6.1.2.0.1071

Hi Expert,

I would like to know if it is possible to downgrade the firmware on a Ruckus R770 access point currently running 122.0.0.0.722, so that it can be managed by a vSZ (Virtual SmartZone) controller running version 6.1.2.0.1071.

If a direct downgrade is supported, could you please provide the recommended firmware version and upgrade/downgrade path required for compatibility with vSZ 6.1.2.0.1071?

Hi Aaron,

The R770 is not listed as a supported AP model for SmartZone 6.1.2.x. As a result, an R770 running firmware 122.0.0.0.722 cannot be managed by a vSZ controller running 6.1.2.0.1071. Based on the available compatibility documentation, there is no supported AP firmware downgrade path that would make the R770 compatible with vSZ 6.1.2.x. The recommended solution is to upgrade the vSZ controller to a release that supports the R770 platform.

One possible option would be to upgrade the controller to SmartZone 7.x and maintain separate AP Zones:

A 6.x AP Zone for legacy APs.

A 7.x AP Zone for the R770 APs.

However, please note that the R770 APs would need to operate in the 7.x AP Zone and would effectively be part of a separate AP firmware domain. Features that require APs to be in the same AP Zone and firmware train may not function between the R770 APs and APs running in the 6.x AP Zone.

Hi Aaron Perez,

R770 is supported on SmartZone controller from 7.0 onwards. You can find this information in the R770 Quick Setup Guide :

Hence R770 will only work with vSZ controller running on 7.0 or above code.

Any specific reason you are unable to upgrade ?

Is it due to some specific AP models not supporting on 7.0 ?

If yes, then you can still upgrade the controller » Keep the existing AP zones in 6.1.2 » Connect the R770 in new 7.0 zone.
